With the aim of facilitating the transfer of knowledge on animal welfare to the livestock and pet sectors, to the biotechnology industry and to zoological institutions, researchers from the behavioral and animal welfare group have created AWEC, a company owned by the UAB and emerged from the Nutrition and Animal Welfare Service (SNiBA) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, based in the UAB Research Park.

The research team, led by Xavier Manteca University Professor, is formed by Eva Mainau, Débora Temple, Pol Llonch, Marta Amat and Susana Le Brech, all veterinary doctors and researchers from the UAB.

Innovation in Animal Welfare

The group has more than 20 years of experience in research and training related to captive animals. This accumulated scientific and technological experience has allowed the team to detect the most urgent market needs and adapt to the specific needs of each client. With all this acquired knowledge, AWEC offers a series of activities that include advice, the elaboration of evaluation protocols, the design of specific improvement strategies and innovation to solve the problems associated with the behavior and welfare of farm animals, of company and of zoo. To offer the best service, the company is based on three branches: FAWEC (Farm Animal Welfare Education Center), focused on the welfare of farm animals; CAWEC (Companion Animal Welfare Education Center), focused on companion animals and ZAWEC (Zoo Animal Welfare Education Center), dedicated to zoo animals.
